Muffuletta Recipe

This Muffuletta Recipe is a take on the New Orleans classic Italian sandwich. Some of the ingredients can be a bit hard to find, so we have some alternatives so you can still enjoy the Muffuletta.

Ingredients:

1 large round bread loaf, (8-9″ in diameter). The original calls for Italian bread, but you can substitute with a soft sesame bread or even French bread.
1 cup Boscoli olive salad (Creole olive salad)
4 ounces salami, thinly sliced
4 ounces capicola, thinly sliced
4 ounces mortadella, or deli ham, thinly sliced
4 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, thinly sliced
4 ounces provolone, thinly sliced
3 tablespoons olive oil (you can use the oil from the olive salad)
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Slice the bread load in half (horizontally), and remove enough of the crumb to make room for the sandwiches fillings.
3. Layer the olive salad, meats and cheeses on the bottom half of the loaf.
4. Drizzle with olive oil, salt and pepper and replace top half of loaf.
5. Wrap sandwich in aluminum foil and bake until warmed through around 25-minutes.

Pinot Noir Wine

This muffuletta recipe is a take on the classic New Orleans Italian sandwich. The sandwich pops with the flavors of the olive salad, meats and cheeses. You can really go with either a chilled white wine or a light red wine. With the meats and cheeses, I feel that a Pinot Noir compliments it well. It is not overpowering and can be served slightly chilled to be the perfect accompaniment to the muffuletta.
